The pre-vocational programme introduced by the Ministry of Education in 1999 aimed to use the living skills approach in assisting and training students with moderate cognitive abilities to become self-reliant or independent in daily life. To support the programme, Sabli Food Industries Sendirian Berhad in collaboration with Pengiran Isteri Hajah Mariam Secondary School in Serasa launched packaging of spices activity for teachers and students of the Pre-Vocational Homeroom Programme. The activity are among the successful programmes lined up in cooperation between the school and a local company.
The activity was launched by Yang Berhormat Haji Abdul Hamid @ Haji Sabli bin Haji Arsad, Member of the Legislative Council who is the Chairman of Sabli Group of Companies. It is an initiative of the Academic Unit of the Schools Department, Ministry of Education in order to provide an opportunity to the students of Pre-Vocational Programme and teachers to gain working skills.
Three Year 11 students and one Year 10 student took part in the activity held since the 10th of April. According to Awang Ezra bin Pilpus, Homeroom teacher from the school, by far, the students have packed more than 4 thousand packets of cinnamon powder and anise flowers.
It was the fifth collaboration between the school and the company which involved students in practical activities such as cooking, housekeeping, carpentry, gardening and handcraft. Such programme is hope to develop basic vocational skills. It is a 5 years programme where year 10 students will undergo work placement for 3 months and 6 months for Year 11 students.
