The driver of a Toyota Camry car died after his car went off the Tun Fuad Stephen Road and rock embankment before plunging into the sea near the KPD traffic lights at Tanjung Lipat here yesterday.
Hang Chong Chen, 35, from Taman Bukit Sepanggar was on his way home after a night out with friends died when the accident occurred about 6am on National Day.
City police chief ACP M. Chandra said initial police investigation showed the victim had lost control of the car at a bend as it skidded off the road and plunged into the sea.
“Fire and Rescue personnel pulled the victim’s body from inside the car, which sank about three meters,” he said.
It took Fire and Rescue personnel more than an hour to pull the wrecked car from the sea with an off-road four-wheel-drive vehicle and a tow truck.
The incident caused a massive traffic jam as passers-by slowed down or stopped their vehicles to see what had happened.
