The Bridport Hat Festival Is Easily The Most Ridiculous Festival In The World

You have to take your hat off the people attending the Bridport Hat Festival in Dorset, they know how to have fun.

Every year thousands of people descend on the town with the most ridiculous headgear they can imagine – and we’re not talking about a slightly edgy slogan or a colourful snapback.

The hats featured are nothing short of works of art, which this year included a hat resembling a cooked breakfast, another fashioned into a makeshift ‘grumpy-o-meter’, and (inevitably) one mocking US President Donald Trump.

The surreal festival saw the streets of Bridport packed with Pythonesque creations on Saturday (or ‘Haturday’ as it’s known), with some people sometimes going beyond hats and donning full fancy dress.

As well as bringing a few laughs, the event raises money for head-related charities.

Mayor of Bridport, Councillor Anne Rickard, said this year’s festival was one of the ‘best ever’.

She added: ‘I’m always impressed by how much work goes into this event and so many people from the town, as well as visitors, come along and enjoy themselves. It really brings the whole community together.’

The festival has grown in size rapidly since being started eight years ago by local man Roger Snook.

So, hats off to him (sorry, we had to).
