For Malay­sians overseas, being away from their tanahair only makes the heart grow fonder for home sweet home.

From Melbourne to Mexico City, anak-anak Malaysia abroad have continued to send home messages of love leading up to the 54th Malaysia Day celebrations on Sept 16.

In the Land Down Under, risk and assurance consultant Mi­­chelle Wong marked the occasion with a family photo near the Yarra River in Melbourne.

“Even though we are now li­­ving away from our home country, we will always miss our fa­mily and good friends from home,” said Wong.

Though blessed to have Malay­sian friends there, as well as an ample variety of excellent Ma­­laysian food which satisfies their cravings, there are still things which can never be replaced.

“Like our memories of growing up, late-night makan places, late shopping hours and having fresh Malaysian durian.

“So no matter where we are, in our hearts, we will always be #AnakAnakMalaysia!” she add­ed.

Wong also hopes that all Ma­­lay­sians will never forget their roots and continue to embrace the diverse cultures and diffe­rences that they have grown up with, which make Malaysia such a peaceful and beautiful country.

“In its push for development, I hope that Malaysia will not forsake its beautiful greenery and environment, which we all so loved,” the business owner added.

As for Universiti Putra Ma­­­lay­sia senior lecturer Dr Shureen Faris Abdul Shukor, who was in Denmark for an academic task at the University of Co­­penhagen, her subsequent tra­vels to Switzerland to visit the Montreux Arts Biennale 2017 would prove fortuitous.

On her way there, she saw a photo opportunity during a road trip passing by the Susten Pass in the Swiss Alps, and braved strong winds for a patriotic pose with the Jalur Gemilang and #AnakAnakMalaysia sign.

“I did not want to miss the chance to join The Star’s #AnakAnakMalaysia campaign and stand united with other Malaysians to show our love for the country,” she added of the photo taken at 2,224m above sea level.

Mydin managing director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin also joined in the fun, and sent in a picture of him and his wife Datin Dr Siti Hawa Mohd flying the Jalur Gemilang together with pride in Wanaka, New Zealand.

The #AnakAnakMalaysia campaign is organised by Star Media Group in collaboration with Eco World Development Group Bhd to commemorate National Day and Malaysia Day.

On Aug 27, more than 6,000 Malaysians, including Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and his consort Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, gathered in Shah Alam for the #AnakAnakMalaysia Walk 2017.

Until Sept 16, Malaysians currently overseas who want to send home a message of love can e-mail their photos and vi­­deos.

They can also make a public post via their favourite social media site with the hashtag #AnakAnak Malaysia.

All they have to do is download the official campaign poster from The Star Online Facebook page’s cover photo, print it, pose with it and send the pho­­tographs to [email protected].

They can also display it on their mobile device. Selfies and wefies are welcome.

Pictures and videos submitted will be shared on The Star Online’s social media accounts and published on its different platforms, so join in the fun!
