Two Die In Boat Accident In North Sulawesi

JAKARTA
Two people died when a boat was hit by a large wave and sunk in Serei waters, North Minahasa regency, North Sulawesi, on Tuesday.
Ten passengers were swept away by the wave, two of whom were later found dead. The incident occurred in waters located in between Lihaga and Gangga islands, in West Likupang district, at 4 p.m. local time.
The incident happened when the Gracia, a 40-horse-power boat captained by Yoseph Pantulu, a Gangga resident, with two crew members, departed for Gangga Satu from Munte Port at 3 p.m. The boat was carrying 10 passengers and construction materials.
Gangga Satu resident Adi Patric Kuada said the boat was hit by a 3-meter-high wave at 4 p.m. in Serei waters, after which it capsized.
Crew members of the Long Bech boat captained by Roli Salindeho rescued Yoseph, two crew members and eight of the passengers.
Gangga Satu residents found the body of Didi Ngala in Serei waters at 5 p.m. on Tuesday while the body of another passenger, Refli Tulung, was found on Wednesday. It is suspected the boat was overloaded. (ebf)
