Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith and his Cambodian counterpart Prak Sokhon met on Sep 5, 2017 in Cambodia’s Phnom Penh to discuss issues related to disputed border between Laos and Cambodia.
The ministerial meeting was held in compliance with the agreement reached at the meeting by Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and his Cambodian counterpart Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Sep 1, 2017.
The two ministers agreed on the content of the draft letter to be signed by the Prime Ministers of Laos and Cambodia and addressed to the President of France to request the French government to provide all maps and documents related to the determination of Lao-Cambodia border during the French rule to the governments of Laos and Cambodia so that they can be used as fundamental evidences for settling the border issues.
Both sides unanimously agreed to assign the border committee of the two countries to field inspect the disputed areas in the near future to together find solutions to suspended border demarcation in four spots in Champassak Province of Laos and Xiengteng Province of Cambodia so that they can complete the border demarcation in the near future.
They agreed to assign the border committees to task the Lao-Cambodian technical subcommittees with doing field inspection of the areas where border demarcation is suspended between Kengtomorkhoy and Houayta-ngao and plant border markers wherever they agree on so that they can work on other markers.
