A cement train has derailed in Kaeng Khoi, Saraburi province, with three men reportedly injured.
The No.1601 train was carrying cement in 16 cars. The last car was a second-class air-conditioned sleeper with three company staff.
The train left Ban Hin Lub station in Kaeng Khoi for Lamphun and Chiang Mai in the afternoon. After going downhill in tambon Thap Kwang and swerving past Wat Pa Sadet, all 16 cement cars derailed before they reached Pha Sadet station.
The last passenger car was intact only because the other cars blocked the way and kept it on track.
In any case, all three staff in the sleeper car were hurt. They are Kraisorn Ditthaisong, 34, Komut Yingchaoren, 54, and Denpong Inthian, 38.
As a result of the incident, all northeastern trains have to take the Bua Yai-Nakhon Ratchasima-Kaeng Khoi route while the cars were removed, a process expected to take at least six hours. Passengers can expect a longer trip on the new route, according to the State Railway of Thailand.
Officials are investigating the cause of the derailment. TPI Polene Plc, a cement producer, recently bought the locomotive and it was still on a trial run.
