Murder of Japanese couple in Bali may have been premeditated
The Denpasar Police on the resort island of Bali have said that the murder of Japanese couple Norio Matsuba, 76, and his wife Hiroko Matsuba, 73, on Sept 4 may have been premeditated.
"We suspect the murders were planned as we found evidence indicating as much," Denpasar Police chief Sr. Comr. Hadi Purnomo said on Thursday.
The police found a gasoline bottle, a lighter and plastic rope at the couple's rented house, where they were found dead with burns to their bodies. The sharp weapon used to cause injuries to the couple has not been found.
"We suspect the fuel was taken to the house by the perpetrator," Hadi said, explaining that the perpetrators had tried to incinerate the bodies.
The police have yet to name any suspects, but they believe there was more than one person, and that they were known to the victims.
The couple was found dead in their home in the Puri Gading residential complex in Jimbaran, Bali, on Sept 4. Their bodies were found on the second floor of the two-story house. (ary)
