BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam today joined His Majesty's subjects in the country in performing the Friday prayer and listening to the special Friday sermon at the Jame' 'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kampong Kiarong.

Also performing the prayer at the mosque were His Majesty's sons, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel.

The special Friday sermon was delivered by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.  Among other matters, it stressed the ummah must maintain family relations as well as the brotherhood in Islam.  Yang Berhormat said such relations are important and blessed by Allah the Almighty.  The State Mufti also emphasised that the ummah should not ignore misdeed and vice.  In the Khutbah or sermon, Yang Berhormat reminded that Allah frowns upon people who refuse to right wrongs or help the oppressed, adding that Allah favours the people who show disapproval at the very least towards misdeeds, vice and oppression.  In this regard, Yang Berhormat also highlighted the plight of the Rohingyas in Myanmar and that Muslims who ignore them would be the first to be punished by Allah the Almighty.

The Friday prayer was led by Yang Dimuliakan Begawan Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Haji Suhaili bin Haji Metali Al-Hafiz.  During the prayer, the doa qunut nazilah was read to invoke upon Allah the Almighty to lessen the sufferings of the Rohingyas.

On the oppression of the Rohingyas, Brunei Darussalam, the Muslim ummah and the world regret the situation and demand the authorities in Myanmar to resolve the humanitarian crisis with the utmost justice.
