TEMBURONG

The Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, yesterday made a working visit to the Temburong District to oversee the welfare of Muslim converts and the underprivileged.

The deputy minister, who is also the Vice President of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB), first visited the home of Asnaf Zakat recipient Dayang Nur Haziah binti Abdul Rahman to see her handicraft products and duck-breeding farm.

Nur Haziah, who received Zakat assistance from 2009 to 2014, is one of the recipients who have successfully left the Zakat Contribution Recipient Group through her efforts and active engagements in her handicraft and salted egg businesses.

She has also volunteered to provide shelter for an underprivileged Asnaf convert who does not have a proper place to live in.

The visiting group from the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) then continued on to the homes of Awang Gani bin Abdullah (Berauh) and Muhd Razali bin Abdullah (Tibu) in Kampong Batang Duri.

Awang Gani is a recipient of the Zakat distribution that covers house rental expenses, daily necessity expenditures and schooling expenses for two of his children, who are currently sitting for their GCE 'O' Levels. His wife also hopes to start her own Nasi Katok business.

His family expressed their gratitude and extended their appreciation to the government, particularly the MUIB, for the assistance and selecting them as one of the Zakat recipients.

The visitors then proceeded to the Kampong Rataie National Housing Scheme Mosque, where the deputy minister was welcomed by Mosque Affairs Officer and Imam Awang Eldie bin Haji Suhaile, before going to the Kampong Belais Mosque to perform mass Zuhur prayer.

In the afternoon, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti paid a visit Dayang to Nursabariah binti Abdullah in Kampong Temada Bokok, who is a recipient of the Islamic Da'wah Centre housing assistance under an expenditure from the MUIB Asnaf Zakat Mualaf Contribution.

Prior to this, the deputy minister stopped by a house belonging to Muslim convert Mohd Anuar bin Abdullah Garai, which was recently destroyed by a fire. The deputy minister also handed over donations from the Islamic Da'wah Centre to the convert.

Before concluding his working visit, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti also took the opportunity to look at the 'One Village, One Product' produce of the Kampong Batu Apoi Village Consultative Council.
