Eight Finalists to Compete at National Level Youth Musabaqah Tilawatil Al-Quran Competition

Eight finalists will proceed to the final round of the National Level Youth Musabaqah Tilawatil Al-Quran (MTQBK) Competition, organised by the Youth and Sports Department of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), which is scheduled to take place on May 26.
The names of the eight finalists were revealed yesterday in a ceremony held at the Lecture Room of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.
Present as the guest of honour was the Permanent Secretary at the MCYS, Dato Paduka Dr. Haji Affendy bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin.
Also present at the event were Awang Haji Zafri bin Haji Mohamed, the Acting Director of Youth and Sports; Pengiran Anak Md Sofian bin Pengiran Anak Haji Ibrahim, Acting Special Duties Officer Grade 2; heads of departments; senior officials; the competition's participants and parents, as well as other invited guests.
Yesterday's ceremony commenced with a Surah Al-Fatihah recitation led by Ustaz Haji Abdul Halim bin Haji Fuad, followed by welcoming remarks from Dayang Hajah Noor Maslina binti Haji Sulaiman, the Head Officer of Youth and Sports, in her capacity as the Secretary of MTQBK.
It continued with a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Awang Muhammad bin Ali, Champion of the 15th International Tilawah Al-Quran Competition in Moscow, Russia, and runner-up in the recent National Musabaqah Al-Quran Recitation Competition for Adults 1437H/2016.
Pengiran Haji Amiruddin bin Pengiran Haji Damit, chairman of judges for the competition, then announced the names of the selected Qaris and Qariahs – Awang Muhammad Sa'dun bin Suhaili, Awang Ashizal bin Zainal Abidin, Awang Abdul Mu'in bin Haji Abdul Hamid, Awang Muhammad Arif bin Haji Johari, Dayangku Siti Ummi Syazana binti Pengkan Haji Marjuki, Dayangku Amal Zahirah binti Pengiran Haji Jofri, Dayang Hajah Wafiqah binti Haji Daim and Dayangku Nur Aqilah binti Pengiran Haji Ayub.
In his speech, Pengiran Haji Amiruddin said that he hopes the competition will be annually conducted in the future, to not only improve the quality of Al-Quran reading among the participating Qaris and Qariahs, but also raise interest and love for the Al-Quran among the youths as a source of guidance in their lives, in line with the nation's Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) philosophy and Brunei's aspiration of becoming a Zikir Nation.
The event later saw the guest of honour presenting the competition's participants with tokens of appreciation and souvenirs, before it ended with a Doa Selamat recitation and group photo session.
