BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Personnel from the Labour Enforcement Division at the Labour Department caught four foreigners red-handed for allegedly violating the labour laws in their latest operation codenamed 'Operasi Gempur 47/2016' on Saturday. The operation was carried out by four personnel, from 8am in the morning.

The four foreigners, who are believed to be working as cooks and managers, as listed in their Foreign Employment Permit, were caught selling carpets door-to-door in Kampong Ayer.

For the offence, the Labour Department will take action to terminate or reduce the quota on the employment of foreign workers by the employer while the foreign workers found guilty will be deported back to their respective countries after their working passes are terminated.

The Labour Department reminds employers and the public not to misuse their foreign workers' employment permits. For employing a foreign worker without a permit from the Commissioner of Labour, offenders can be charged under the Chapter 112 (1) of the Employment Order 2009 and if found guilty will be charged under Chapter 112 (3) of a similar order with a fine of not less than BND$6,000 and not more than BND$10,000 or imprisonment of not less than six months and not more than three years, or both.
