The Ministry of Finance has announced that His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has given consent for the implementation of the Customer Recognition Programme called the Sutera Lane Merchant Scheme (SLMS), which will provide trading facilities in line with the standards of the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) concept recognised by the World Customs Organizations (WeO).
The main objective of the programme's implementation is to boost the conducive trading environment in support of the national vision to facilitate the business community in conducting business in the country. The Programme which came into force on 2nd September 2017 encourages improved adherence to the country's regulations and laws among importers, exporters or customs agents by offering facilities such as,
a. Expediency and priority in import and export permit approval process by agencies who are stakeholders in the issuance of import and export permits;
b. Expediency and priority in the customs declaration approval process and also the process of issuance and release from Muara Port;
c. Inspection of containers and cargoes conducted on the OperatorSLMS premises (if required) and;
d. Permitted to make deferred payment on import and excise taxes and duties.
