Eight Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) students were presented with certificates for completing a 14-week work placement programme held at the Brunei History Centre from January 26 to May 2.

Six of the students were from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) majoring in Historical Studies, while two other students were from the Academy of Brunei Studies.

Brunei History Centre Acting Deputy Principal, Awang Hanafi bin Salleh presented the certificates to the students. The students also presented their working papers which focussed on their experience throughout the work placement and on places visited during their placement.

Throughout he programme, the students were given special assignments in the form of essay writing from document analysis and practical research, including interviews, historical transcription, receiving exposure on various methods of historical research, writing techniques and editing.

The Brunei History Centre introduced the work placement programme in 2001 with the aim of producing youths with broad knowledge in various fields including history, allow exposure to real working conditions and to enhance skills and knowledge.

The programme also helps boost participants' self-confidence before they venture into the real working world and increase awareness on the importance of local history as part of efforts in strengthening our national identity.
