SINGAPORE

A 22-year-old man accused of stomping another man repeatedly at Golden Mile Complex last week has been charged in court on Monday (Oct 16) with one count of voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

Wee Boon How is alleged to have attacked his 25-year-old victim, Bong Hong Yun, at around 2.50am on Oct 11, by punching and stomping on his face.

An online video of him allegedly assaulting Mr Bong as the latter lay curled up on the floor outside a shop at Golden Mile Complex went viral in the wake of the incident.

Mr Bong was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital with head injuries and facial fractures. He has since been discharged. TODAY understands that he may need to go for facial reconstruction.

Wee, believed to be a cook, was arrested on Saturday night.

On Sunday afternoon, he was taken back to the scene of the alleged incident for about 15 minutes.

Wee, who is unrepresented, will next appear in court on Nov 13. The court heard on Monday that he intends to plead guilty, and would like to engage a lawyer.

If convicted of voluntarily causing grievous hurt, Wee could be jailed for up to ten years and fined, or caned. He faces another charge for rioting, which will be dealt with at a later date.
