A 38-year-old local woman was ordered by the Magistrate's Court to pay a fine of $20,000 for possessing alcohol and cigarettes. But she failed to pay the fine and was sentenced to jail for 12 months yesterday.

Norsita binti Mohammad drove her car through the Kuala Lurah Control Post at 1.48pm on April 29, 2016.

A customs officer inspected the defendant's vehicle and found 57 cartons of cigarettes, three bottles of liquor and three bottles of beer.

Senior magistrate Lailatul Zubaidah Hussain ordered for the seized items to be forfeited and the return of the defendant's seized car.
