Three Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA)  personnel here have been remanded to facilitate the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigation into alleged bribery involving foreign vessels encroaching into Sabah waters.

Magistrate Afiq Agoes issued the remand for a deputy director (logistics), an investigation officer and an officer from the MMEA Sabah starting yesterday.

The 45-year-old deputy director was remanded six days while the officers aged 39 and 53 were remanded five days each.

MACC investigating officer Faliq Basiruddin said the three were arrested at the MACC office here on Sunday.

They have been remanded under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 to facilitate investigations into the issue of foreign boats encroaching into Sabah waters, he said.

“If needed to process a second application we will do as soon as possible when the remand ends,” he said when met outside the magistrate’s court.
