EU Chamber Of Commerce And Industry In Laos Marks 5th Anniversary

VIENTIANE, LAOS

Tuesday, May 3, 2016 marks the 5th anniversary of the European Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the Lao PDR (ECCIL).

“This anniversary celebration not only marks the 5-year journey we have already completed, but serves as a guide for future growth and expansion of our services and support capabilities. The future looks bright indeed,” ECCIL President Guy Apovy told a reception held on May 3 to mark the event at the French Ambassador’s residence.

The chamber started with 30 founding members, 10 of whom were elected to the first board.

Also at that time the chamber had a staff of two, the Executive Director and a part time assistant.

Of the founders, five board members and the Executive Director are still in place.

Since its early days, the Chamber has received strong financial support in its development, not only from the EU but also from the German development services CIM and GIZ, which allowed it to expand to its present size where, in its own rented premises, it now has 10 staff to cater for the needs of its 120 members, a figure that is now growing at a steady rate.

“With its expanded facilities ECCIL is now able to offer its members a wide range of services to help them with their business endeavors both in Laos and in the ASEAN Region,” said ECCIL President Guy Apovy.

“These additional facilities have enabled us to organise, jointly or solely, a number of successful events such as the Job Fair, the fifth of which will take place on the 20th of this month, and the European Food Festival being held on Saturday, May 7th,” said the ECCIL President.

Mr Apovy said that the European Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the Lao PDR has become more and more committed to providing the services and support its growing list of members requires.
