Towards providing an understanding on the importance of the Halal certificate and label in canteens of private education institutions in the Brunei Muara and Temburong districts, the Ministry of Education through the Private Education Division, in collaboration with the Halal Food Control Section, Syariah Affairs Department yesterday morning held a briefing on the Halal Certificate and Halal Label (Amendment) Order 2017. The briefing was held at the Ministry of Education.
The briefing among others aimed to strengthen the Halal Certificate and Halal Label Order 2005, which allows the Ministry of Religious Affairs or the relevant government agencies to carry out enforcement at halal premises after the Miscellaneous Licence and Business Licence are abolished. This enabled enhancement of the halal food control on business premises to ensure that the food and products sold and services provided in the country are truly halal and not causing doubts among Muslim consumers.
The briefing also explained on monitoring audit for premises with halal certificates and halal permit to ensure that they comply with the requirements and conditions. If fail to comply, the halal certificates and halal permit holder will be given a suitable period for amendment. A follow up audit will be carried out later to reconfirm on the amendment. The briefing will continue tomorrow for school leaders and canteen operators of private education institutions in the Belait and Tutong districts.
