KUALA BELAIT

A newborn baby boy was found in the garage of a house in the Belait District yesterday but died while being taken to a hospital.

In a statement, the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) said that it received a report from Suri Seri Begawan Hospital of Kuala Belait saying that the baby was pronounced dead after being brought to the hospital by a woman.

The RBPF said the hospital was informed by the woman that she found the baby in the garage of her aunt's home.

She claimed that the baby was alive then, but died during the journey to the hospital.

The statement said the Seria Police Station and the Women and Children Abuse Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department carried out an inquiry and identified the baby's parents. The mother was brought to the hospital for further examination.

An autopsy has been carried out to determine the cause of death.

The case was also brought to the attention of the Community Development Department (JAPEM) which is also expected to conduct an inquiry.
