As a government post-secondary institution, the Institute of Brunei Technical Education, I-B-T-E should work together with the Ministry of Education towards achieving the target of the National Key Performance Index particularly in order to contribute to the needs of the country by providing top quality technical education and training. The Minister of Education made the remarks during the 25th Institute of Brunei Technical Education Convocation ceremony at the Chancellor's Hall of Universiti Brunei Darussalam this morning. On efforts to monitor and improve programmes that have little impact on the IBTE Key Performance Index, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi welcomed the institute's effort to form a committee called the 'Industry Steering Committee' as a precise measure. The Minister of Education also believed such a committee led by influential people in the country's industrial sector will improve and further strengthen the close cooperation with the industries, especially in creating high quality programmes that truly fulfils the country's human resource requirements or needs.
Yang Berhormat Pehin added the IBTE should always be able to prove it is a trusted top quality brand. Hence the awarding of certificates of recognition for Management System Quality, the ISO 9001-2008 achieved by the IBTE last year was among the measures for the progress of technical education in the country. In this regard the Minister of Education fully supports the IBTE in starting a process of transferring from the existing ISO Management System to the ISO 9001-2015. Yang Berhormat Pehin believed such an effort would boost stakeholders' confidence especially that of employers, in the quality of training and IBTE graduates based on the study carried out on supervisors this year, indicating 82 per cent of employers were satisfied with the work quality and performance of IBTE graduates.
During today's convocation ceremony, 1,776 graduates received diplomas and certificates in various programmes. From that total, 1, 012 graduates received the National Diploma and Higher National Technical Certificate of Education, the HNTec in the morning. 11 graduates received excellent student awards in the BD-Tvec and IBTE programmes while 3 others received the Special Students Award. The awards were given to graduates who were excellent not only in their studies but also in co-curriculum activities. Also present were Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, the Deputy Minister of Education, Datin Paduka Doctor Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Doctor Haji Azman bin Haji Ahmad and Dayang Nadia Lee Siew Hoon binti Abdullah, the Deputy Permanent Secretaries at the Ministry of Education.
