Opening of Hybrid Rice Yield-Increasing Technology Course

As an overview, the total rice production in 2016 is 1,500 metric tons only. With the future Department of Agriculture and Agrifood's trajectory, an increase of up to 11,500 metric ton in 2020 is expected to be achieved by implementing several initiatives - including increasing the productivity of rice per hectare in proper irrigated areas using high yielding rice varieties especially hybrid rice varieties. The Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism believed training courses on hybrid rice yield-increasing technology will play a significant role to equip farmers and staff of the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood in the management of hybrid rice and hybrid rice seed production. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong was speaking this morning, at the opening of the 2017 Training Course On Hybrid Rice Yield-Increasing Technology in Brunei Darussalam.
Earlier, Doctor Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, in his welcoming remarks said the main objective of the training course is to successfully train and farmer's relevant officers and staff of Department of Agriculture and Agrifood in high yield hybrid rice production. Hopefully, this will help to further increase rice productivity and production.
Meanwhile, Her Excellency Yang Jian, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam expressed, said China enjoys very good relations with Brunei Darussalam. The two sides respect and support each other. The mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields between the two countries have been fruitful in recent years. The 45-days training course is jointly organised by the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood and the Yuan Longping High-Tech Agriculture Company Limited with the support of the Ministry of Commerce of China. 40 people from the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood, Institute of Brunei Technology Education; Agrotechnology Campus and local rice farmers are attending the course. Also present at the ceremony were Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pendikar Alam Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Hasrin bin Dato Paduka Awang Haji Sabtu; Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Umarali bin Esong; Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Abdul Hamid @ Haji Sabli bin Haji Arsad; Yang Berhormat Dayang Nik Hafimi binti Abdul Haadii AND Yang Berhormat Dayang Khairunnisa binti Awang Haj Ahs'ari, members of the Legislative Council.
