President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo performed the Batak traditional dance Tortor during the Mandailing wedding ceremony of his daughter Kahiyang Ayu, who tied the knot with Bobby Afif Nasution, on Saturday.
First Lady Iriana Jokowi also accompanied Jokowi in the dance. Both were donned in elegant ulos, or traditional woven clothing of Batak, Antara reported.
Bobby Nasution is a member of the Batak tribe and is believed to be the seventh descendant of the Nasution king.
The Tortor dance symbolizes that the President and First Lady have become part of the Siregar clan.
On the previous day, Ayu was bestowed the Batak clan name Siregar by the kin of Bobby Nasution's mother, whose family name is Siregar.
Following the main Javanese traditional wedding ceremony held in Surakarta, Central Java, on Nov. 8, and hosted by Jokowi's family, the Batak family of Bobby Nasution has been holding a Batak traditional wedding ceremony for several days in Medan, North Sumatra.
The main reception in Medan will be held on Sunday.
Ayu, the only daughter of Jokowi, and Bobby Nasution are both 26 years old and students of the Bogor Institute of Agriculture. The duo had dated for a year and got engaged in June 2017.
