S.M.S Brunei Prihatin is among the efforts of the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans, DANA to diversify ways for the public to channel donations. It aims to enhance the community's caring attitude and affection towards the less fortunate such as orphans in the country. The DANA S-M-S Brunei Prihatin 2017-2018 began today and was launched this afternoon at the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah complex in the capital.
The S.M.S Brunei Prihatin was launched by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, the Minister of Education. Also present at the ceremony was Dato Paduka Eddie bin Dato Paduka Haji Sunny, the Chief Executive Officer of DANA. Earlier there was a presentation of the DANA S.M.S Brunei Prihatin 2017-2018 promo in the form a compact disc from the Syarikat Lailatul Syazana's Studio. The DANA SMS promo was handed over to Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi as the Chairman of the DANA Board of Trustees by Sheikh Idham bin Sheikh Haji Abas. The DANA SMS promo will be telecast on Radio Television Brunei and shown at participating cinemas, The Mall Cineplex, Times Cineplex and The Arena Cineplex. Meanwhile members of the public wishing to donate can do so through SMS Brunei Prihatin without any service charge imposed by two local telecommunications companies, DST and Syarikat Progresif Cellular Sendirian Berhad.
The function continued with the presentation of the DANA's donations to orphans. The contributions were in the form of coupons for buying schooling necessities for the 2018 school year. Three thousand eight hundred orphans registered with the DANA Secretariat nationwide received coupons with a value of 70 dollars each. During the launch the DANA also received three thousand, eight hundred and twenty dollars from the Association of Brunei's Singapore Alumni, AKBS 1965-1986. Apart from alleviating the burden of the orphans, the contributions were also intended to make them aware of the importance of education in their future life.
