Chung Hua Middle School Kuala Belait emerged as champion in the 5th Bigstart competition for Secondary Schools, colleges and sixth form centres. The competition which was jointly organised by the Department of Co-Curriculum Education, Bank Islam Brunei Berhad and Radio Televisyen Brunei was held at the Information Department Hall, this morning.

Prizes were presented by Doctor Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metusin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism.  5 teams competed in the final. The Bigstart competition is an annual Entrepreneurship project that aims to expose students in the field of entrepreneurship.  This year's competition carries the theme: 'online Business - A Step Forward'.  Second place was won by the Sultan Sharif Ali Secondary School and Saint George's School came in third.  Bigstart was launched in 2012 to develop student creativity in planning a business project, to enhance their innovation and risk-taking to achieve objectives of the business as well as to seize opportunities for more specific skills and knowledge needed in establishing social or commercial activity.

Earlier, the function saw the presentation of contributions to five single mothers.  Each received Five Hundred Dollars of which two hundred dollars came from profits gained by the finalists of the competition and three Hundred Dollars from Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam, BIBD.  Throughout the 15-week competition, the young entrepreneurs have learnt to deal with challenges and obstacles.
