Search for Missing Vehicles

The Royal Brunei Police Force through the Criminal Investigation Department and the Sarawak Contingent of the Royal Malaysian Police Force, PDRM have solved a number of car thefts and swindling cases involving rented vehicles reported in 2013 and 2016 with the recent recovery of five vehicles in Sarawak.  The total value of the vehicles is estimated at 120 thousand dollars.  Two of the recovered cars were involved in the rented car swindling cases.   The recovery of the cars was the result of close rapport between the two Police Forces.

 

Senior Superintendent Haji Mohd Fadzillah Bin Haji Ismail, the Acting Deputy Director of Criminal Investigation Department, and Police Superintendent Haji Mohd Azrie Bin Talib, the Officer Commanding Police District of Kuala Belait received the vehicles at Miri Police Station in Sarawak on the 29th of last month.   According to the Miri District Police Chief, the vehicles were detained following information from the department and on suspicion of involvement in the car thefts and swindling cases reported in Brunei Darussalam.

 

Senior Superintendent Haji Mohd Fadzillah also explained that 52 vehicles are still missing. He added close cooperation between the two Police Forces in crime fighting trans-border crimes has resulted in both Police Forces successfully arresting those involved in the car thefts and swindling cases in the country.  The suspects are two Malaysians arrested by the Perak Contingent of the Royal Malaysian Police Force and the Miri District Commercial Crimes authorities in November 2016.  Both suspects were extradited to Brunei Darussalam for further investigations and charged.  Both accused pleaded guilty and were sentenced to five years and four months imprisonment.  The Royal Brunei Police Forces has advised members of the public to be extra cautious when dealing in selling cars with unidentified persons and to always report to the Police on any suspicious activity.
