PHILIPPINE

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) warned Filipinos on Monday against applying for overseas work in seven websites and social media accounts, which are using its name without any authorization.

In an advisory, POEA said jobspoea.com, poeajobsabroad.org, poea-jobsabroad.blogspot.com, poeanursingjobs.info, and poeaworkabroad.net are not affiliated with its operations.

Likewise, it also disowned the following Facebook accounts: POEA Job Agency Hiring USA; POEA Jobs in Dubai; POEA Jobs in South Korea.

“Job applicants should also avoid recruitment websites … that use ‘poea’ in their domain name or title,” POEA said.

“The official website of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration is poea.gov.ph, the same name of its official Facebook page,” it added.

POEA warned applicants against applying in such websites and social media accounts, which may serve as a platform for illegal recruiters.

It cited the case of job offers posted by Gilrlie Mapano Supnad and Safer Yildiz, her Turkish husband, in Facebook without any license from POEA.

The couple have been recruiting overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines through Facebook.

They have been promising to redeploy their victims to supposed jobs in Turkey, Australia, Canada, Italy, France and other countries in exchange for paying 120 to 320 US dollars.

“After sending money, the victims said all that they heard from the couple were excuses with no positive result on their supposed job application,” POEA said.

“POEA advises overseas job applicants to be suspicious of jobs posted by individuals in their Facebook accounts who have no authority to recruit Filipino workers for overseas jobs,” it added.
