U15 Interschool Futsal Tournament Between Schools and Colleges in Zone 1

BERAKAS, BRUNEI-MUARA

It is true when they say it is all about the journey while reaching the destination. The destination here is winning second place in the U15 Interschool Futsal Tournament between Schools and Colleges in Zone 1, 2016.

It all began when we were in Year 7 in 2014. We were doing CCA futsal playing against other classes.

Unknown to us, we were being observed by our CCA teacher in charge of futsal. In 2015, we were approached by that CCA teacher, Cikgu Suhaif. He shared his interest in forming a futsal team playing in the interschool futsal tournament. Ten of us were selected and we have been training each week during CCA periods.

April 4, 2016 was the first game of the tournament. The tournament was held at the Multi-Purpose Hall in Berakas.

We fought hard with the game ending in a stalemate. We might have been nervous since it was our first game.

Our coach/teacher-in-charge explained our weakness and told us to reflect upon our mistakes while encouraging us for the next game.

We won all the following games which led us to reach the semi-finals against a sister school Awang Semaun Secondary School.

It was a hard fought battle with 10 minutes each half time. The coach rotated all the players and didn't bark orders on the sidelines as he believed it would just make us more nervous as it was. He just sat and watched the game while encouraging us during the game.

Upon reaching the finals, we were defeated by Sports School, losing by a goal. The game was an intense one. We gave it our best shot. The coach just smiled and congratulated us. He said we will be back next year.

One of the most unforgettable moments was when we were having cool coconut drinks and noodles just outside the Multi-Purpose Hall building.

Some couldn't resist the tantalising lamb burger. We will never forget how happy we were riding together on the bus singing aloud. Our coach said our singing should be like playing on the futsal court, in harmony with each other. With each passing tournament day, not just our futsal team but our futsal choir team got better too!

The journey to our first Futsal Trophy is etched within our memories. Now Sayyidina Umar Al-Khattab futsal players are ready and looking forward to the 2017 Interschool Futsal Tourney, not just to gain experience but to WIN.
