A local was yesterday sentenced to 16 months' imprisonment after he pleaded guilty in the Bandar Magistrate's Court to encouraging his underage son and another boy to commit theft.

The thirty-eight-year-old man has been given anonymity to protect the boys' identities.

Magistrate Pengiran Shahyzul bin Pengiran Abdul Rahman heard how the boys, both aged 14, were instructed to steal a set of speakers from a house at Jalan Haji Halus in Kampong Bunut on the afternoon of April 19, and place them outside before leaving the scene.

DPP Dayangku Hazirah binti Pengiran Yusof further informed the court that the man had brought the boys back to the house later in the evening to collect the stolen items.
