The Marine Department yesterday conducted a public awareness roadshow on 'Brunei Darussalam Maritime Security', highlighting the topics of 'Boat Licensing Enforcement' under the Merchant Shipping (Registration of Fishing Vessels and Pleasure Craft) Regulations 2011 and 'Navigation Safety' relating to the nation's bridge projects.
The roadshow was attended by the Acting Director of the Marine Department, Captain Basza Alexander bin Haji Basri.
During the roadshow, a briefing was delivered by Pengiran Haji Amirul Azri bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Hamid, Marine Officer; and Awang Jumat bin Haji Jamudin, Vessels Assistant Registrar of Marine Department.
The briefing touched on regulations under the Traders Shipping Order 2011, and shared relevant information on the requirements and application processes.
Meanwhile, on navigational safety for bridge projects, the briefing elaborated on the 'notice to mariners' regarding the temporary working zone within the areas of bridge projects in Brunei waters.
To enhance the safety of fisher-men and workers, they were advised to keep themselves clear of the construction areas.
Among the objectives of the roadshow was to raise public awareness on issues regarding maritime safety and security, including its rules and regulations, besides emphasising relevant policies on boat numbering and use of fishing equipment.
