BERAKAS, BRUNEI-MUARA
The Qari and Qariah, who represented Brunei in the 58th International Tilawah Al-Quran Competition in Kuala Lumpur, returned home yesterday to a warm reception after their impressive wins.
Awangku Muhammad Adibul Amin bin Pengiran Haji Marjuki was the first runner-up in the Male Tilawah Al-Quran category with 90.15 per cent, while Dayang Siti Huzaimah Yadey binti Haji Rosli came in third in the Female Tilawah Al-Quran category with 85.88 per cent.
Upon their arrival at the Brunei International Airport, the pair were greeted with a Hadrah of Dikir Marhaban, followed with a reading of Doa Selamat and Doa Kesyukuran by Mudim Awang Haji Amran bin Haji Mohd Salleh.
On hand to welcome them was the Minister of Religious Affairs, Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman.
Also present was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, the Minister of Home Affairs; and Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, who was accompanied by his spouse.
In an interview, Awangku Muhammad Adibul Amin gave thanks to Allah the Almighty for his second place win in a major Al-Quran competition.
He also thanked his father and entire family for their support.
When asked about the challenges he faced, he said that the hardest part was maintaining healthcare in terms of food intake and vocal stamina, while undergoing daily training in perfecting reading techniques for the competition.
Meanwhile, Siti Huzaimah shared her joy and excitement with family members and friends who had come to congratulate her.
Siti Huzaimah thanked the Islamic Syiar Development Department, under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, for providing an intensive course in Al-Quran reading prior to the competition. She also encouraged more Bruneian youths to study Al-Quran recitation methods, particularly Tarannum (reciting the Al-Quran in a singing manner).
Among those who were present at the Brunei International Airport yesterday were deputy permanent secretaries and senior officials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
