Three primary schools in the Kluang district have been affected by floods, with one having to completely shut down due to rising floodwaters.
Johor Health, Environment, Education and Information committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said that the affected schools were SK Punan, SK Ladang Mutiara and SK Seri Sedohok.
“SK Punan was ordered shut on Monday (Jan 1) and today (Jan 2), and all teachers have been told to instead report to a nearby school, SK Kahang.
“Roads leading to SK Ladang Mutiara and SK Seri Sedohok were also cut off due to floodwaters at 6am Tuesday (Jan 2),” he said in statement here.
Ayub said that the school has informed Parent-Teacher Association committee members over the closure of SK Punan while the two other schools were still in operation.
“A total of 17 teachers, seven of whom are staying in the teachers’ hostel nearby, were able to report for duty at SK Ladang Mutiara and are conducting classes.
“Three teachers and two wardens were also able to report to work at SK Seri Sedohok and are conducting classes as well,” he said, adding that some of the teachers were able to get to the schools by riding through plantations on motorcycles.
