BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The Royal Brunei Police Force, RBPF carries the responsibility of ensuring and protecting the peace, security and wellbeing of the country's citizens and residents.  Today's Khutbah or Friday sermon highlighted the trust given by the government to the RBPF in eliminating and preventing crimes in the country.  However, the sermon added it does not mean the task should solely be placed on the police force.  In this regard, cooperation and understanding should exist among the police and other security agencies, stakeholders as well as the society.

In the sermon, the Imams or prayer leaders said society's cooperation and information sharing as voluntary monitors or the eyes and ears of the authorities not only create solidarity, peace and harmony, but also assist in expediting the detection, reduction and solving of crimes or criminal cases.   According to the sermon, criminal cases handled by the Royal Brunei Police Force have decreased in recent years.  5,846 cases were reported in 2014.  The total decreased to 5,399 in 2015 and in 2016, the number of reported cases declined further to 5,204.  In 2016, crimes against property made up the most cases.  Out of 2,900 reported cases, 2,303 were thefts or robberies.
