Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators are to question former House of Representatives speaker Marzuki Alie as a witness in the multitrillion-rupiah graft case pertaining to the electronic identity (e-ID) card procurement project.

Marzuki will be questioned as a witness for suspect Anang Sugiana Sudihardjo, the president director of IT consulting firm PT Quadra Solution that was involved in the project, according to a statement from the anti-graft body on Monday.

Apart from Marzuki, the KPK investigators are also scheduled to question other current and former lawmakers, namely Abdul Malik Haramain from the National Awakening Party (PKB) and Djamal Aziz from the Hanura Party. Both served on Commission II overseeing home affairs during the House’s deliberation of the project from 2010 to 2011.

Marzuki was implicated when his name was mentioned in the indictment against former Home Ministry officials Irman and Sugiharto, who were tried in early March 2017 and convicted in July 2017 for their roles in the graft case, which reportedly incurred Rp 2.3 trillion (US$161 million) in state losses.

The indictment claimed that Marzuki received Rp 20 billion from the graft along with other lawmakers, while Abdul and Djamal received US$37,000 each.

Anang is accused of bribing a number of lawmakers through businessman Andi Agustinus, a.k.a Andi Narogong, who was convicted for his role in the e-ID case and sentenced to eight years in jail last month. (dmr)
