3rd National Scientific Symposium

The landscape of Science which used to be viewed as science fiction has now become a reality and a scientific fact. To develop innovative, precise and targeted medicines for every patient that needs them and to match those treatments to patients most likely to benefit from them is now possible. Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Doktor Haji Mohd Isham bin Jaafar, the Minister of Health stated this during the 3rd National Scientific Symposium yesterday morning. The event took place at the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences, Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

 

In his opening remarks, Yang Berhormat also said scientists and medical experts are now able to identify the source rapidly and ensure appropriate public health measure can be taken immediately to contain the spread of disease. Early detection capability is therefore one of the most significant and important achievements and advancement in laboratory medicine.

 

During the ceremony, the Minister of Health also presented prizes to the winners of the poster designing competition held in conjunction with the symposium. Also attending the function was Awang Haji Abdul Manap bin Othman, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health.

 

The symposium carrying the theme, 'Innovating Precision Medicine For Patient Care' focused on three vital areas namely cancer, lifestyle and infectious diseases is certainly very relevant in today's era of dynamic changes with health complexities and challenges. The 3-day event which ended today had 200 participants comprising of medical laboratory professionals, healthcare professionals, academics, postgraduates and undergraduates. The symposium was jointly organized by the Brunei Darussalam Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists and the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Saadatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences, UBD.
