Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sabah publicity secretary Ginger Phoong yesterday claimed that he had uncovered something fishy in the latest supplementary electoral roll for Luyang constituency.
In the supplementary electoral roll for the fourth quarter of 2017, Phoong found that 12 new voters had been added to a house at Taman Mutiara whom the house owner confirmed were neither her friends nor relatives.
He said the 12 new voters at the house at Taman Mutiara were all Chinese with different surnames, born between 1938 and 1950, meaning that there were all 70 years old and above.
He said according to the house owner, she had submitted her MyKad to the MCA service counter in Foh Sang to move her voting address last month and her identification card was held at the counter for a day.
Phoong stressed that he was not alleging of any wrongdoing by MCA but hoped that the relevant party would explain the situation.
He also highlighted several other cases, including the addition of eight new voters to a house at Taman Luyang Phase 2, five new voters to a house at Taman Luyang Perdana, six new voters to a house at Taman Fu Yun and five new voters to a house at Taman Golden City.
He said he had only managed to verify the case with the house owner at Taman Mutiara for now.
Phoong added that he would file an objection and complaint to the Election Commission (EC) and hoped that the latter could provide an explanation.
At the same time, he urged all parties to keep their hands clean.
On another note, Phoong said based on his observation of the supplementary electoral roll, many young people born after the 80s and 90s had yet to register as voters.
He said there were seven million out of the voting population who had yet to register and he urged young people to register as voters as soon as possible.
On another matter, DAP Sabah treasurer Ronnie Loh Ee Eng called on Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister cum Tanjung Aru assemblyman Datuk Edward Yong to expedite the rewiring work and construction of a rooftop over the basketball court at Tanjung Aru Flat.
He said the rewiring work was expected to commence on August 17 last year following the approval of RM726,000 in federal funds.
Loh said residents of the flat also complained about leaking pipes at the building.
Also present at the press conference was DAP Sabah advisor Jimmy Wong.
