So this ad campaign is a little… unconventional.
A German salon is in hot water with prosecutors over its latest promotional posters and cards, where you wax Hitler’s moustache off.
Basically a poster of Hitler’s face was hung on the door, and little cards bearing the same picture were left in the salon in Cham, Bavaria, with the slogan: ‘Waxing against the Right.’
People could then pull off a strip that was glued across his top lip, which would then reveal the message: ‘1 x waxing = 1€ donation against the Right.’
Now, according to BR public broadcaster, the salon has been told it must remove the promo immediately, as using Nazi symbols is against the law in Germany – regardless of the intention.
‘The main thought was simply to nail my colours to the mast, at a time when refugee homes are being set on fire,’ salon owner Ursula Gresser told BR.
‘If [the far-right] can do that, why can’t I hang a picture of Hitler on my door?’
But prosecutors were firm, saying that ‘the perpetrator’s political beliefs are completely irrelevant’.
Speaking to Seuddeutsche Zeitung, Chief prosecutor Theo Ziegler added: ‘After the owner of the salon saw reason and removed the picture, we stopped the investigation because of the minor nature of the offence.’
