The application of a twenty-nine-year-old permanent resident to retract her guilty plea to 22 counts of practising as a dentist without registration was denied by the Magistrate's Court.
Hayimmah Bahri, who made the application through her lawyer Ahmad Basuni Abas, had admitted in the court last month to fitting braces on patients and giving consultation to patients whom she found through her Facebook page.
She had asked for leniency for the sake of her two children and apologised to those who received 'treatment' from her.
After the rejection of the application, Ahmad Basuni pleaded for leniency and asked the court to take into account that the defendant is a young mother of two children and her husband is working on shifts.
Ahmad Basuni also drew the court's attention to the delay in bringing the case to court after a raid by the police on the defendant's 'operations site' in 2014 and that his client has been in remand for the past 16 days, which would suffice as punishment.
He urged the court to pass a non-custodial sentence.
Magistrate Azrimah Abdul Rahman adjourned her sentencing to May 11.
