Over 100 SP Setia employees and senior management added to the momentum of the #StandTogether campaign by pledging to support a National Kindness Week in their local schools.
The employees came out in force as part of “Team Setia”, making their pledges publicly at Setia City Mall as Suria FM Wheelers and popular DJs entertained them with games and giveaways.
“Many of our employees are parents and are deeply concerned with the cases of bullying that are on the rise among children,” said SP Setia CEO Datuk Khor Chap Jen, referring to the spate of deadly bullying and school violence cases last year.
“That’s why so many of us stepped up and volunteered for the activities planned under this campaign.”
#StandTogether is a bullying prevention campaign jointly organised by R.AGE and SP Setia with the aim of creating an annual National Kindness Week in schools every first week of April.
“Ultimately, we aim to nurture a more empathetic society so that we can embrace the diversity in our multicultural society,” said Khor.
He was echoing the support made by SP Setia chairman Tan Sri Dr Wan Mohd Zahid Mohd Noordin during a meeting with R.AGE and Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan on Jan 11.
“It’s not a zero-sum game,” said former Education Ministry director-general Dr Wan Zahid.
“It’s not that we want to be heroes, but what we want to do is to (gather) the support together.”
The #StandTogether National Kindness Week will take place on April 2 to 6, culminating in a celebration event in Setia Alam on April 15.
The campaign has received support from Kamalanathan and his fellow Deputy Education Minister Datuk Chong Sin Woon and has been approved by the Education Ministry. Students can also take part in a #StandTogether competition by submitting ideas for National Kindness Week activities, events or campaigns in their schools.
The 10 best ideas will win cash grants of up to RM1,000, and the top five schools will receive visits from #StandTogether celebrity ambassadors such as Lisa Surihani, Arwind Kumar, Jenn Chia and more.
Popular YouTuber Jinnyboy created a huge stir when he visited his alma mater SM Stella Maris Pudu last Tuesday to promote the campaign and its message of kindness.
The school promptly pledged to take part in the campaign and organise National Kindness Week activities, making it the first school in the country to do so.
