Fifteen members of Geng Cinta Decoupage (GCD), a non-profit organisation, held a craft project and tutorial yesterday, for the vocational students of Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam.
Decoupage is the art of decorating objects with cut-out pictures, paper or fabric, using a special type of glue.
According to GCD founder, Dayang Hajah Sauyah binti Haji Mahmud, the project was intended to provide the centre's special needs students with the opportunity to learn about decoupage paper crafts, in addition to enhancing their fine motor skills in drawing, cutting and pasting.
"We want the students to be able to benefit from the project, so that they can acquire and develop the necessary skills for this craft. Insya Allah, if they are able to hone their skills enough in the art of decoupage, it could help them to make some financial gains," she said.
During the one-day tutorial, the students were provided with recyclable materials such as tin cans and key chains, for them to embellish.
GCD currently has more than 70 members in three districts - Brunei-Muara, Tutong and Belait.
