Twelve pre-schools throughout Sarawak have been selected for the ‘Bersih awal, Bersih akhir’ (BaBa) pilot project to inculcate good habits and values on young children through cleaning classrooms and schools.
Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah pointed out that the programme to be introduced beginning this year was based on the concept of Japan’s educational system which give higher emphasis on developing responsibility and ensuring children are capable of cleaning, caring and being polite.
“We want them to start developing all the good habits and manners from as young as possible so that it is ingrained in their character that will last throughout their life,” she said.
Fatimah highlighted this when inspecting a rehearsal of the ministry’s Open Day at the Kuching Waterfront here yesterday.
The BaBa programme, she elaborated, will introduce green habits of reduce, reuse, and ways to go green to children.
“This will help to establish good habits and discipline particularly to have responsibility and accountability,” she added.
With three pre-schools each in Kuching, Bekenu, Dalat and Simanggang, she said the elected representatives in the respective areas have been tasked to monitor the implementation and development of the BaBa programme.
“At this stage, we want to look at the challenges as well as the pros and cons from the perspective of school and parents as we hope to introduce the programme to all schools in the state,” she pointed out.
