The Australian High Commission in Brunei Darussalam, in collaboration with Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), held the opening for the 'Stories Through Memories: 70 Years of Friendship' exhibition at the Arts Centre of the Jerudong International School (JIS) yesterday.

The pop-up exhibition, which will be held until May 13, will provide students with immediate, on-campus access to historical photographs from the Australian War Memorial archives and firsthand video interviews with Bruneians who lived throughout the war to supplement their in-class studies.

Dr. Frank Dhont, senior lecturer at UBD's Institute of Asian Studies delivered, a talk for Year 9 history students to further deepen their understanding of the exhibition content.

Matt Langridge, Head of History at JIS said, "Bruneian history is one of our most popular units of study in Year 9, and JIS is very proud and excited to be able to host this exhibition. It offers a unique and powerful opportunity for our students to appreciate the effects of major world events - on a much more personal and individual level."

Australian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, H. E. Todd Mercer, said, "A key objective of this exhibition, from its initial opening at the waterfront gallery and throughout its tour of the districts in 2015, has always been to assist the young people of Brunei to engage with their nation's history in new ways. We are so pleased to see it taking on a new life through these school-based capsule shows."

The Australian High Commission commemorated the 70th anniversary of the World War II Borneo Campaigns through a series of events in June 2015, including the launching of 'Stories Through Memories: 70 Years of Friendship', a month-long multimedia exhibition at the Art Gallery, Dermaga Diraja in the capital.

The exhibition then completed a successful tour of Temburong, Tutong and Belait districts in November 2015.
