Towards supporting the Ministry of Education's initiative in developing an innovative and creative culture of learning aside from providing a platform to help students to be more open-minded, a debate competition was organised by the British High Commission. The 'Great Debate Competition 2018', is a new achievement between the Education Co-Curriculum Department and the High Commission. Aside from open minded, the competition also creates a communication and critical thinking skills that are useful for the students to step into university life and future careers. The preliminary rounds for the competition was held yesterday morning at the Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre.

The competition carries a theme 'The Commonwealth: Towards a Common Future'. The topics to be debated will touch on areas that are of importance to Brunei Darussalam, the UK and Commonwealth such as Education, Environment, Climate Change and Youth. The Great Debate Competition is an opportunity to celebrate the close educational ties between the two countries in order to support the Brunei Vision 2035. 5 secondary schools participated in the competition
