JALAN SUNGAI AKAR, BRUNEI-MUARA

The Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam observed the 46th Independence Day and National Day of Bangladesh yesterday with full ceremony and prayers.

H. E. Mohammed Abdul Hye, the Bangladesh High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, hoisted his country's national flag outside the embassy while a section of the Bangladesh community looked on.

The day's programme included special prayers and a reading of special messages from Bangladesh's President, Md Abdul Hamid; the Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina; Mahmood Ali; and the country's MP and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Md Shahriar Alam.

A discussion session was also held as the Bangladesh community paid tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founder of Bangladesh who is fondly remembered as the "Father of the Nation".

A special prayer was offered for salvation of the martyrs of independence, as well as for the peace, progress and development of Bangladesh.

The event was attended by expatriate Bangladeshis living in Brunei, together with their families.
