PISA Implementation Briefing

The Ministry of Education through the MOE PISA Task Force, MPTF under the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, OECD will be implementing the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) Main Survey from April until May this year. PISA is an international assessment for students aged 15 years conducted every three years and is the measure for national education achievement and not individual students' achievement.
The participation of Brunei Darussalam in international assessments specifically PISA is inline and among the initiatives of the Ministry of Education for achieving Wawasan Brunei 20-35 towards a highly educated, skilled and successful population. This afternoon, principals and coordinators as well as teachers from 57 schools under the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Religious Affairs, Private and International were briefed on the PISA Survey. The briefing took place at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Girls Arabic Secondary School in Kampung Katok.
Doktor Habibah binti Haji Sion, Deputy Director of Planning and Development as the PISA National Project Manager in her speech stressed on the importance of support from the principal and involved parties to ensure the success of the survey's implementation. She added, the participation of every student who has been identified is mandatory in view that it is the national agenda. Among the objective of the nation's participation in the PISA survey is to obtain basic guidance that can enable the policy-maker to underscore intervention and determine investment in education aside from identifying the positioning of the National education system at the international arena.
The briefing was delivered by Awang Muhd Sani bin Abdul Rahim/Unan, Senior Education Officer at the Planning, Development and Research Department, Ministry of Education. Among the aims of the briefing was to provide understanding towards the logistic implementation for the PISA survey. The country's participation in PISA will enable stakeholders to see the potential found in the National Education System for the 21st Century.
