Brunei Darussalam and Japan enjoy warm relations built on mutual trust and co-operation. Brunei has long contributed to Japan's energy needs with its generous supply of natural gas, and many Japanese businesses continue to work and thrive in the country. His Excellency Mr. Motohiko Kato, Japan's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Brunei Darussalam spoke at the reception of three ships of the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force, the JS Yamagiri, the JS Sawagiri and the JS Yamayuki, last night.
In attendance was First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad, Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy. In his address, His Excellency said both Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Forces and the Royal Brunei Navy will engage in co-operative activities with each other, such as games of football and a tug of war. The Ambassador added both parties will also be helping the local community by leading a joint clean-up effort along the Meragang beach and such activities not only encourage teamwork but also build genuine friendships and reinforce the close bond between them.
