Datuk Seri S. Vell Paari claims that Bersih 2.0 has deviated from its original aim of campaigning for free and fair elections and has become an “extension of Pakatan Harapan”.
The MIC treasurer-general said the non-governmental organisation's recent show of support for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the Opposition's candidate for prime minister has dented their credibility.
“The selection of Dr Mahathir as prime minister-in-waiting is a clear betrayal of the Bersih supporters' trust,” he said in a statement Wednesday (Feb 14).
Saying that there was a poor turnout at Bersih 2.0's “Satukan Tenaga” campaign and public forum on Sunday (Feb 11), Vell Paari claimed that its leaders had lost their clout and standing amongst Malaysians.
He said Bersih was instead now working with the Opposition coalition to defeat the Barisan Nasional-led government in the coming general election.
