Dress light and don’t forget to pack your umbrellas when you head out to visit relatives over the next few days - the weatherman says it is going to be hot and wet during the Chinese New Year holiday period.
"The weather is expected to be warm with thundery showers in the afternoon, and the daily temperature is forecast to range between 24°C and 34°C," the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said in its forecast for the upcoming long weekend.
The second half of February is also forecasted to be wetter than the first half of the month, with short-thundery showers expected mostly in the afternoons on six to eight days, MSS added in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 14) night.
On a few of these days, the MSS noted that thundery showers may extend into the evening.
Singaporeans can also expect the weather to be warmer over the next two weeks where the daily maximum temperature could reach a high of around 34°C.
“On most days, the daily maximum temperature is forecast to be around 32°C or 33°C while the daily minimum temperature is expected to range between 23°C and 24°C,” said the MSS.
The weather agency also noted that in the first two weeks of the month, Singapore received “well below-normal rainfall”.
“The highest rainfall of 22.4mm (66 per cent below average) was recorded around the south-western part of Singapore. Rainfall was lowest around the Jurong West area where 4.2mm (94 per cent below average) was recorded,” said the MSS.
You can get updates of the daily weather forecast from the MSS website (www.weather.gov.sg), NEA website (www.nea.gov.sg), or download the myENV app, or the MSS’ Weather@SG app.
