Good governance will ensure all sections of the Indian community in Malaysia enjoy the benefits of policies in the Malaysian Indian Blueprint (MIB), said Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.

The Health Minister, who is also the chairman of the Cabinet committee on Indian community (CCIC), said every ringgit alloca­ted to help the Indians would be enjoyed by the rightful recipients.

“The Government has tasked the Socioeco­nomic Development for the Indian Commu­nity Unit (Sedic) with implementing the MIB policies.

“If corruption, leakages and abuse of power occur somewhere down the line, then no matter how good the policies are, it will not reach its intended target.

“Therefore, it is important for everyone involved to stay free of this menace,” said Dr Subramaniam, who is also MIC president.

He said Sedic had channelled some RM240mil to training institutes and Indian NGOs since the unit’s inception in 2014.

Dr Subramaniam was speaking during an anti-corruption pledge ceremony at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters here.

Sedic and members of about 150 Indian NGOs took their oaths and pledge to stay free from corruption.

Also present at the ceremony were Sedic’s director-general Prof Datuk Dr NS Rajendran, deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s De­­part­ment Datuk Seri S.K. Devamany and Federal Territories deputy minister Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan.

Instead of the usual 3J pledge of Jangan Hulur, Jangan Kawtim, Jangan Settle (Don’t give, don’t settle), the group gave a Tamil twist and uttered 3Vs – Vendaam (Do not) Hulur, Vendaam Kawtim, Vendaam Settle.

Chief commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad said the MACC is committed to ensuring that the policies of the MIB will not be tainted by corruption.

“It is my promise to the Indian community that the Government’s policies will be enjoyed by everyone.

“If there is any threat of corruption, we will ensure they are punished,” said Dzulkifli.

The MIB, which was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak last year, sets specific targets and policies to address the plight of Indians.

The blueprint for the next 10 years contains solutions to several key issues such as education, improving livelihoods and better social inclusion
