BERAKAS, BRUNEI-MUARA

 

The final round of the Musabaqah Tilawah Al-Quran competition, organised by the Drainage and Sewerage Department and the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Services under the Public Works Department (JKR), was held yesterday in conjunction with the Isra' Mi'raj 1437H celebrations at the Ministry of Development (MoD).

 

Present as guest of honour was the Minister of Development, Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Awang Haji Bahrin bin Abdullah.

 

The event was also attended by Dato Paduka Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, Deputy Minister of Development; Awang Haji Muhammad Lutfi bin Abdullah, Permanent Secretary (Administration and Finance) at the Ministry of Development; Awang Eddie bin Dato Paduka Haji Sunny, Permanent Secretary (Technical and Professional) at the Ministry of Development; Awang Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Development; Chua Pheng Keong, Acting Director General of Public Works; officers and staff of the Ministry of Development.

 

Awang Haji Mohammad Eddy Huzaimi bin Haji Mat Yassin was declared the Qari (Male) champion; while second place went to Awang Mohammad Yusrin bin Daud and in third place was Awang Mohammad Isham Mudin bin Haji Maidin.

 

Dayang Ratinah binti Haji Hidup was declared the Qariah (Female) champion; while second place went to Dayang Rosnani binti Haji Mohiddin and Dayang Soffina binti Ali Hassan came in third place.

 

The event aimed to encourage the learning and mastering of the recitation of the Al-Quran and strengthen the faith and conviction of officers and staff of the Ministry of Development and departments under it.

 

Seven Qaris and six Qariahs participated in the earlier round on April 23 at the Atria Simpur Hall, headquarters of the JKR.

 

The final round also included a religious lecture in commemoration of the Israk Mikraj 1437H celebrations entitled 'Solat Kesempurnaan Dunia Akhirat' presented by Ustaz Hilman bin Haji Salim, a graduate from the Cairo University in Cairo, Egypt.
